Level 2 Butcher Standard Apprentice, Hannah Blakey is living proof of how far a career in butchery can take you – all the way to Australia in fact!
Hannah, who is just 17 years old and an apprentice with Marley’s Butchers in Ripon, has just achieved second place in the Lifeline Young Butchers Competition in Perth, Australia.
No stranger to international competitions, Hannah last competed in Australia only last September, with the British Beefeaters team at the World Butchers Challenge. It was at this competition where Hannah’s potential was spotted by esteemed Australian butcher and judge, Bob Retallick, who invited her to return to compete in Perth.
Her tutor at Leeds City College, James Richardson said of her,
“I’m proud of her tenacity and commitment to develop and push herself further. Her work is continually getting better, which is testament to her dedication and passion for butchery.”
